TOOTH EXTRACTION

What are tooth extraction?

Preserving your natural teeth to remain strong and healthy is the priority of our dental specialists. Whether your tooth has been damaged due to decay or trauma, our dentists will examine it carefully to determine the best treatment plan for your unique case such as a filling, crown or other treatment options. Although by neglecting the tooth, there may then be a severe level of damage done where the tooth can no longer be saved and a root canal treatment is required along with a tooth extraction recommended.

Other reasons for tooth extraction:

  • Orthodontic treatment – There are times when there is not enough space in the jaw for all the teeth to fit in. Your orthodontist will tell you if there’s a need to create some room for teeth that are being moved in place.
  • Impacted wisdom tooth – Your wisdom teeth may need to be removed if they are infected, decayed or causing pain. These are often impacted or stuck in the jaw and need to be extracted.
  • Pediatric teeth development – If a baby tooth is blocking other tooth from coming in, your pediatric dentist may suggest tooth extraction. Without extraction, the permanent tooth may grow misaligned and not erupt normally.
Wisdom teeth should be removed only if there is good clinical reason to do so. Your dentist will take X-rays and thoroughly examine your mouth before making any decisions. In general, wisdom teeth need to be removed if there is unrestorable decay in the wisdom tooth, non-treatable nerve damage, cellulitis, abscess, tumors, jaw infections and damage to neighboring teeth.
